Grave drawing
Grave photo George Satchwell and his second wife Elizabeth nee Turner George Satchwell was married three times. His first wife Hannah Townsend, whom he married on 14 December 1840 in Cubbington, died in March 1858 and was buried at Cubbington, her home village. Together they had a daughter, Ann, born in 1841. George then married Elizabeth Turner, and it is she who is buried with him at Stoneleigh. After her death he married for a third time, his wife being Mary Ann Jeacock who is buried with several other members of the Jeacock family at B 12.6. George was probably born at the very end of 1817: his baptism was on 4 January 1818 at Kenilworth. His father Job was a carpenter and he and his wife Elizabeth nee Lee had a large family of ten children. After George's first marriage he was employed as a joiner and in 1841 lived with his wife in Kenilworth. Their daughter Ann was born in October that year and baptised at Kenilworth the following February. By 1851 they lived at Castle Green and George was now described as a journeyman carpenter. Two years after George's first wife, Hannah, died, he married Elizabeth Turner on 1 May 1860 at Holy Trinity Coventry. Both gave their address in the Radford area of the city. They appear to have lived in Yardley Street, Coventry, after their wedding, since, sadly, George's only child Ann died in August there, aged just 18. Their married life was short, since Elizabeth died on 18 May 1867. (see below) By the time of the 1861 census they had moved to Kenilworth and George was a master carpenter by now, employing others, and the couple lived at Castle End. George's third marriage was to 48-year-old spinster Mary Ann Jeacock, on 17 October 1872, at Stoneleigh. She was the daughter of Job Jeacock, Stoneleigh farmer, butcher and parish clerk. George died less than two years later, on 8 February 1874, aged 56, and was buried at Stoneleigh on 14 February. Mary Ann lived for another 18 years, dying in 1892. Elizabeth Satchwell nee Turner was born in 1814 in Kenilworth, the daughter of Samuel, a cordwainer, and his wife Mary nee Reynolds. She was baptised there as Eliza on 9 March. No further record of her has been found until her marriage to George Satchwell on 1 May 1860. She was 46 by then and does not appear to have had children. After their brief stay in Coventry and a move to Kenilworth, George seems to have been doing well in his profession as their address in 1861 was a good one at Castle End; when Elizabeth died on 18 May 1867 her death was announced in the newspaper as the wife of Mr George Satchwell. She was buried at Stoneleigh on 22 May.
