Grave photoEliza Prime, her husband Charles and family were well-known figures in Stoneleigh. Eliza was born Eliza Prentice in 1854 and was baptised at Stoneleigh on 21 July, the daughter of William and Elizabeth. On 20 February 1879 she married Charles Prime and they had four sons and a daughter, three of the sons serving in the Great War and one, John Charles, losing his life as a result. Son Henry became an expert gardener in Hatfield, Jonathan became a postman and William (Bill) is well-remembered in Stoneleigh as the bootmaker/repairer. Daughter Jane (Ginny) is equally well-remembered. The family home from 1879 to 1964 was in Birmingham Road. Eliza died at the age of 81 on 6 March 1936, long outliving her husband Charles who had died suddenly in 1909.
