Robert Harris was born in Stoneleigh in 1872 and baptised on 28 July. He married, first, Lucy Dodwell, at St Nicholas Church Kenilworth, on 9 January 1899, and the couple had three sons before Lucy's untimely death in 1907. Robert remarried in Kenilworth on 28 February 1911, Ellen Tuck.
Robert was a gardener who also worked as the village sexton/gravedigger, taking on many boys as helpers at around the time of the First World War. He died on 28 June 1934.
Ellen had been born in Kingston Bagpuize in Berkshire on 17 February 1868 . By 1881 the family had moved to Oxfordshire. She outlived her husband by nearly 20 years, dying on 17 May 1953.
