Grave photoWilliam Leonard Mills was one of nine children of William Herbert and Christina Mills (nee Southam) who had lived in Kenilworth but moved to live Stoneleigh by 1880. William was born on 2 October and baptised on 26 November 1882 in Stoneleigh. He married Edith Ellen Chattaway on 12 December 1904 at Stoneleigh Church and they went on to have five children. William joined the Royal Warwickshire Regiment but at the age of 35 was discharged as no longer fit in April 1917. By the 1939 census he was working as a corporation sewage labourer, still living at 1, The Bank. He died on 11 December 1956 aged 74. Edith Ellen Mills (nee Chattaway) was born in Hill Wootton on 12 March 1882, one of seven children of Joseph and Catherine. One of her brothers, William Henry Chattaway, was killed on the Somme on 3 July 1916 and is commemorated on the church war memorial. Edith worked briefly as a servant on a farm in Willenhall before her marriage. She survived her husband by seven years, dying on 4 August 1963.
