Grave photoPeggy Sheila Teresa Byrne was born in Hampshire in 1923, the daughter of William and Eveline Byrne, but by 1941 was working as a telephonist for the Coventry Post Office. Tragically she was killed on her bicycle on 31 January 1942; as she fell from the bicycle she was run over by an ambulance. The headstone records that she was the dearly-loved niece of Wallace and Winifred McNab, and a separate flower-holder is inscribed "Our Darling Peggy". On the same headstone is commemorated her aunt, Winifred McNab, nee Pike, Peggy's mother's sister. Winifred was born in Hampshire, the daughter of a police officer, and married Joseph Wallace McNab on 8 November 1926 at South Farnborough. Joseph was a sergeant in the 2nd Dorset Regiment at the Malplaquet Barracks. They had two daughters, Joan Daphne and Teresa, and Winifred lived to the grand age of 94. She died on 18 December 1997 and was buried on 31 December, alongside her beloved niece.
