Grave photoImage Millicent Louisa Rose was born Millicent Howkins in 1867 in Stretton on Dunsmore. Her parents lived at Poors Plott there, and Millicent was baptised at the parish church on 15 March 1868. With six siblings, it is not surprising that Millicent was living at the Shoulder of Mutton Inn at Stretton by the time she was 13, as a servant there. She married William Rose in 1887 and they went on to have 11 children.
William Rose had been born in late 1868 in Stoneleigh, and was privately baptised in January 1869 before being properly "received into the church" in March. He continued to live in Stoneleigh and before his marriage was living at Bridge Cottage. At first the newly-weds lived in Earlsdon, Coventry, where William was a watch polisher, but the pull of Stoneleigh and the country life was evidently strong as the family had moved to The Kennels at Stoneleigh Abbey by 1894, where he became a gamekeeper. William died on 28 May 1941 and Millicent died on 19 April 1942. Image Image
