B1.5

Grave photoFive members of the Lord family are recorded on this tombstone. Arthur Lord was born in Leeds, Yorkshire in 1868 where his father was a machine model maker. Arthur continued in the engineering profession and it was presumably his work which took him to Dusseldorf, Germany by the late 19th century. He married Adah Walker in 1895 in Bingley, West Yorkshire, though he was living at Old Trafford, Manchester at the time, and working as a draughtsman. Their three sons Arthur Norman, Edward and George were born in Dusseldorf. By 1911 he had returned to England and lived with Adah in Park Road, Coventry but they later moved to Kenilworth. Adah had also been born in Leeds, Yorkshire, in 1869. She died on 18 January 1940, at Wood End, Leamington Road, Kenilworth. At the time of their father's death on 18 February 1952, Arthur Norman, the eldest son, was a textile manufacturer; Edward was an accountant and George, by now living in Yorkshire, a company director. The two eldest sons are also commemorated along with their parents. Arthur Norman, born in 1902, died on 28 April 1980, and his younger brother Edward, born in 1903, had died five years previously on 30 April 1975. Lastly, Dora May (nee Clarke) the wife of Arthur Norman, who had been born in Coventry in 1907 and married in Stoneleigh on 4 September 1930, died on 31 January 1985, just two days after celebrating her 78th birthday. Her ashes were interred, in the family plot, on 18 March.
