Grave photoWalter Harry Archer was born in Wolston on 25 June 1898 to Harry Edward Archer and his wife Sarah Ann (nee Tew). He was baptised there on 17 July and his parents' address was Marston Hall, his father being described as a farmer. The 1901 Census, however, showed the family of two sons and two daughters living in Bretford with Harry now described as an Artistic Painter. Unfortunately he died on 7 January 1902 and by the 1911 Census, Walter and his younger sister Winifred were living at the Infant Orphan Asylum in Wanstead, Essex. Times must have been difficult for the family, because in the same year their mother Sarah, with her other son Thomas and her own aged mother were living at The Hollies, Wolston, keeping a lodging house. Sadly, one year later, on 19 August 1912, Sarah herself died. Walter nevertheless returned to the Midlands and married Ethel Mary Adcock in Stoneleigh on 8 June 1926. He died in Wolston on 11 March 1978 nearly nine years after his wife, aged 79. Ethel Mary (nee Adcock) was born in Stoneleigh in 1897 to William Adcock and his wife Edith (nee Wright) who were part of a well-known farming family in Stoneleigh parish. In both the 1901 & the 1911 Censuses the family were living at the Leasowes in Stoneleigh where William farmed. Ethel died on 4 April 1969 aged 72.
