B11.15

Charles David Sandford was born in Newent, Gloucestershire on 10 March 1895, though he was staying with an aunt and uncle in Whitchurch at the time of the 1901 census. He married, in 1921, Ivy Baylis, who had been brought up by her mother Ada and her stepfather Loveridge, in Warwick. Charles evidently went on to work for the Leigh estate as in 1939 he was working, at the time of the September register, at Adlestrop, as an estate bricklayer at Hill Farm there. Working there at the same time, as a joiner, was Sydney Hancox, who hailed from Stoneleigh. The register seems to suggest that Charles is part of the fire brigade there too. Charles died towards the end of 1973 and was buried at Stoneleigh on 3 December.
