John and Mary Pountney
John Pountney was born in 1778 and married
Mary Pinks of Berkswell, at Stoneleigh, on 7 Feb 1796. They had a daughter Keziah in 1803, who married Joseph Stubbs in 1828 at Stoneleigh and who went on to have five children.
John died in July 1843 and was buried on 14 July 1843. Mary later lived with her granddaughter Esther Stubbs, since both Esther's parents Keziah and Joseph had died. Mary was living on parish relief at The Hurst in 1851, and she died on 29 November 1863 and was buried on 5 December 1863.
Perhaps it was her granddaughter who erected the tombstone in "affectionate remembrance" of her grandparents. The stone is now broken and appears at the base to refer to "four daughters and sons", who might be the other children of Joseph and Keziah Stubbs nee Pountney.
