Mervyn William James Sanders and Lily May Sanders nee Beesley
Mervyn William James Sanders was born in Clifton, Bristol on 26 July 1926, to parents William and Harriet nee Brain. He was living with his parents at shrubbery cottages there at the time of the 1939 register, and his father was a police fireman.
Mervyn married
Lily May Beesley (usually known as May) at the end of 1945. She had been born on 10 February 1919 in Coventry, to parents Edward and Phoebe Beesley nee Low. In 1939 she lived with her parents in Lymesey Street and was working as a shorthand typist.
Mervyn travelled on a temporary passport (issued in 1953) to Brazil, his profession being given as a technician/mechanic. He actually travelled in March 1957. His address at that time was Green Lane, Finham.
When Mervyn died aged just 48 on 8 August 1974, he was living at Stoneleigh Road. He was buried at Stoneleigh on 14 August and a remarkable inscription made for his headstone:
In gratitude for his outstanding and
unfailing qualities of comfort
encouragement warmth and love, and his
profound understanding for all who knew him
A Happy Heart
So loving and giving, so deeply loved.
May survived him by twenty years, dying on 6 September 1994. Her address at the time was The Grange, Blunsdon, Swindon.
