Thomas Field's birthplace is unknown but his gravestone declares his age at death as 66, making his date of birth 1733. He died on 28 December 1799 and was buried at Stoneleigh on 2 January 1800. The register states that he was "servant to the Hon. Mary Leigh", and he is specifically mentioned in a Will she made in 1791, when she left him an annuity of fifty pounds a year. He died before she did, however. The very worn stone has a yew tree planted in front of it.
