Alice Muriel Thorley was the daughter of John William (Jack) and Alice Thorley, nee Bate. The family have played a significant part in Stoneleigh life for over a century, Alice's grandfather John having been the village policeman in the early twentieth century, bringing up a large family.
Alice was born on 30 December 1915, the first of Jack and Alice's two daughters. Jack was then a carpenter on the estate and during the First World War served in the Warwickshire Yeomanry, though he spent the entire war in the UK. When she died on 3 January 1988 her address was 22 Rowley Road Baginton.
