John Newbold's death is recorded on 5 April 1830 in the burial register as "of Whoberley", and that he was 33 years old. A bachelor, John farmed at Whoberley House which was part of Stoneleigh parish, even though some distance from the village. Sadly John took his own life whilst "temporarily deranged" as was stated at the inquest, and his farm and its effects were sold at auction. A "highly respectable farmer" according to the newspapers, John died intestate but his heir was his brother Thomas Newbold.
