Grave photoNorman and Betty Shortland Norman Arthur Shortland was born on 6 July 1916, the son of Arthur and Betty (nee Duckham). During the Second World War he served as a Staff Captain with the Eighth Army. Norman played cricket for Warwickshire during the late 1940s, having married in June 1940 Betty Margaret Hodierne, who had been born on 16 February 1921. They lived at Finham Farm, and Norman was director and company chairman within the vehicle repair business. Norman played many sports: rugby football and golf as well as cricket, and became a director of Coventry City FC. He died on 14 March 1973. His cremated remains were interred at Stoneleigh. Norman and Betty had two children, Pat and Lesley, and were grandparents to five. Betty survived her husband by many years, as she died on 8 January2014 aged 92. Her funeral was held at Oakley Wood on 27 January, and her ashes interred at Stoneleigh. There is a bench dedicated to the memory of the couple, and the font cover, made by Mr S Hancox, was dedicated to Norman's memory in 1976. For a fuller description of Norman's life, see F.1.11.
