Grave photoErnest Robert King and Annie May King nee Adams Ernest Robert King was the third-born of the eight children of Joseph and Mary Maria King nee Lowe. He was born on 7 March 1893 whilst the family still lived in Cubbington; they were later to move to Stareton and by 1901 were living at 1, Vicarage Road, Stoneleigh. When Ernest was 18 he was working as a road labourer, his father being a waggoner. On 6 August 1917 he married Annie May Adams in Ladywood, Birmingham. Annie was born on 5 December 1896 in Aston, Birmingham, the daughter of Raynor Leonard and Ann Adams nee Dixon. Her father was a turner and fitter at the time of his marriage, and the family, now with five children, had moved between 1901 and 1911 to live in Edgbaston, at which time Annie was herself the one to fill in the census and to describe herself as learning to be a tailoress. It is unclear how she came to meet Ernest. Ernest and Annie had a daughter, Rhoda Janet, who was born on 18 August 1920. In the 1939 register the family lived at Rose Cottage in Stoneleigh. Young Rhoda (later to be Rhoda Ruck) was a shorthand typist, whilst Ernest was a working foreman with drilling machines. He was also an air raid warden. Annie, on top of household duties, was in the civil nursing reserve. Ernest had been churchwarden at Stoneleigh and when he died aged 87 on 3 November 1980 his headstone recorded that he was "churchwarden emeritus". Annie died ten years later on 29 July 1990 at the age of 93. She was buried at Stoneleigh on 8 August.
