Grave photoFlorence Gertrude Spurr, nee Davies Florence Gertrude Davies was born in Coventry on 18 July 1872 and was baptised on 18 September 1872 at Holy Trinity, Coventry. Her parents were Miles James Davies and his wife Laura Louise nee Jephcoat. In 1881 the family were living at 18 Broadgate Coventry where Miles, a master draper, ran a drapery business. Florence was 8 years old and had two brothers and two sisters. By 1901 the family had moved to Dalton Road, Earlsdon, Coventry with Miles Davies still working as a draper and employer of a great many assistants. At the age of 52 Florence married Frank Spurr, another local draper and shopkeeper, at Stoneleigh on 9 July 1925. Frank died in Coventry on 16 June 1937. The 1939 Register shows Florence, now a widow, living in Woodlands Avenue, Coventry with a domestic servant. She lived to be 73, dying while living in Marsh Lane, Hampton in Arden Warwickshire on 18 September 1945. Frank Spurr Frank was born in Axmouth, Devon in July 1865 to parents George Spurr and his wife Julia nee Bothamley, and baptised there on 17 September. The 1871 Census shows that by then the family had moved to Anderby in Lincolnshire. George Spurr had four sons and two daughters and was farming 97 acres, employing two men and one boy. Frank, however, did not follow in his father's footsteps and by the age of fifteen was working as a draper's assistant in Hitchin.By 1891 his job had brought him to Leamington. In 1911,still single, he was head of a household living on the High Street in Grays Thurrock, Essex. A shopkeeper, he was living with a housekeeper, a domestic servant, a dressmaker and four drapers' assistants. He married Florence Gertrude Davies when he was 60, on 9 July 1925 in Stoneleigh. Frank passed away on 16 June 1937 while living at 6 Dalton Road in Earlsdon, Coventry.
