Grave photoCatherine Emily Read nee Lynes Catherine Emily Lynes was born in Coventry in October 1874 and christened at St. Thomas' Coventry on 6 December 1874, the child of Henry and Martha Lynes nee Taylor. Her father was a watchmaker living in Moat Street. For some years afterwards she does not appear to be living with the family, and when the 1901 Census was taken she was living in Barras Lane Coventry as a boarder, employed as a watchmaker's clerk. She married Samuel Read in Coventry in mid- 1904. He was the son of an Allesley Old Road watch manufacturer but in 1901 was already working as a bank clerk. He and Catherine had a son, Samuel Charles, a year later in mid-1905. By 1911 they also had a one-year-old daughter Katherine. The family were living at 12, Palmerston Road, Earlsdon, Coventry and Samuel was working as a bank cashier. Catherine died aged 56 on 29 August 1931 with her death registered in Warwick. Samuel remarried in late 1933, his new wife being Evelyn Tipler. By the time of the 1939 register they were living at Stanmore, Stoneleigh Road, and he was now a bank manager.
