Grave photoGeorge Worrall, one of a well-known Stoneleigh family, was born on 21 October 1849 and was baptised in Whitnash on 25 November. His parents were William and Hannah Worrall ( E 5. 3 ) When he was a few months old the family moved to Crackley Cottages in Stoneleigh, and he lived in Stoneleigh parish for the rest of his life. At the age of ten he began work at Grange Farm and worked there under six consecutive tenants, all but one of whom he outlived. He was nine times champion ploughman of Warwickshire. George also served on the Stoneleigh Parish Council for 31 years, and for over 40 on the committee of the Club; for over 50 years he was on the committee of the Co-Op Stores. He was also a churchwarden and a trustee of Sotherne's Charity. He married Frances Saunders, the daughter of John and Mary Saunders, who had been born in Longborough Gloucestershire, in July 1851, on 18 December 1877 in Longborough. Possibly her parents worked on that part of the Leigh estate. George and Frances had ten children, and celebrated their Diamond Wedding in 1937, receiving a telegram from the King. George died on 25 June 1938 aged 88, and Frances died on 27 May 1939 aged 87. Fittingly, their gravestone reads: EACH DUTY DONE, THEY REST IN PEACE
