Grave photoFrancis William White (generally known as William) was baptised in Moreton-in -Marsh on 2 January 1870, his parents being Joseph and Mary White. His father was a linen weaver and his mother a dressmaker and they lived in East Street in Moreton - in - Marsh. Joseph's occupation later became "rural postman", but his son William was to become a carpenter of some distinction, working for the Leigh family. For reasons currently unknown, William went to New York, and there married, on 19 November 1891, a girl from Alford, Lincolnshire, SelinaTaylor. Their first child, Marcella, was born there in April 1892 before their return to England the following year. After their return they lived in Stoneleigh at 3, Birmingham Road, and had another daughter, Gladys Audrey. In the 1911 census William described himself as "Carpenter in Mansion"; he was, in fact, the head carpenter at Stoneleigh Abbey. He also did much work for Stoneleigh Church, including creating the "war shrine" at the end of the Great War. He died at Stoneleigh Abbey on 15 July 1928, at the age of 58. The Leamington Spa Courier, reporting his funeral, stated that he been a member of the abbey staff for over 30 years, and the funeral was attended by several members of the Leigh family. After her husband's death Selina lived at 9 Clarendon Road Kenilworth with her daughter Gladys. Whenshedied on 10 June 1966 her address was Plymouth Place, Leamington Spa.
