Grave photoPercy Henry Lewis was born on 25 October 1878 in Stoke Lyne Oxfordshire to Frederick Lewis and his wife Fanny (nee Creek). Three years later in 1881 the family were living in Fritwell Oxfordshire with Frederick working as a labourer. In 1907 Percy married Margaret Wiltshire (nee Allen) in Bicester, and Margaret had a five year old daughter Margaret Ruth (Madge) who had been born in Windsor. Madge grew up to be the Stoneleigh post lady and was heavily involved in all aspects of village life. Percy is shown working as a labourer in Steeple Aston in the 1911 Census and he and Margaret had two more children. By 1915 they were living in Stoneleigh where their son Basil was christened on 4 July. Percy died in Warwickshire on 19 September 1969 aged 90 years. Margaret A(nee Allen) was born in Lambeth, London in 1878. In 1901 aged 23 she was working as a maid in Baldock, Hertfordshire. Margaret passed away in Warwickshire on 17 October 1967 aged 88 years, some two years before her husband. They had ended their lives in the almshouses, having previously lived in Vicarage Road. Their memorial stone reads: Sleep on, dear ones, Your labour's o'er, Your willing hands will toil no more, For all of us you did your best, May God grant you eternal rest.
