Grave photoSamuel Stoney and Fanny Emma Stoney nee Micklewright Samuel Stoney was born in Kenilworth on 10 August 1859, the son of Samuel Stoney and Elizabeth nee Constable. He was baptised there on 11 March. He had a variety of jobs as he was growing up, from being an ostler at an inn in Rugby,to a sawyer; for much of his life he worked as a forestry labourer, and at least once was injured as part of his work. Fanny Emma Micklewright was born to John and Jane Micklewright on 6 September 1870 in Wrockwardine Wood Shropshire (now part of Telford) where her father John was an engine driver. When she married Samuel Stoney on 26 March 1894 at St John the Baptist Church, Coventry, she was a laundress living at Vicar Lane. Her reason for being in Coventry is unknown. On the marriage certificate her father John was described as an engineer. Samuel was living round the corner in Smithford Street. Sam and Fanny had two sons, both of whom served in the Great War; sadly, the younger, Fred, died on 13 September 1921 from the effects of that experience. The family lived at various addresses in Stoneleigh but are best remembered locally at 5 Birmingham Road, or Croome Cottage. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1944, and Samuel died five years later, on 17 October 1949. Fanny died after a further seven years, on 12 September 1956.
