C2.3

Grave photoArthur William Dolby and Frances SaraDolby nee Billington Also C2.3 their daughter Frances Mary Hutton nee Dolby Three family members are commemorated here. Arthur William Dolby was born on 28 March 1887 in Blatherwick, Northamptonshire, one of six children of Thomas Dolby and Sara Ann nee Eaton. By the time he was four, his family was living in Loughborough where his father was a mechanic for hosiery sewing machinery. Arthur married Ruth Chamberlain in late 1908 and by 1911 they had moved to Pickford, Oakham, where he was a waggonner on a farm, and they had a son, Percy William. One child had already died. Four more sons were born, but sadly, Ruth died in 1917, leaving Arthur with a large family of sons to bring up. He married Frances Sara Billington in late 1919. They had two daughters: Ruby, born in 1923, and Frances Mary (usually known as Mary) in 1931. By 1939 the family was living at 1, Railway Cottage, Green Lane, Arthur working as a farm carter. He died in 1950. Frances Sara Dolby was born on 4 May 1887 in Cumnor, Berkshire, the daughter of Frederick and Fanny Billington. Her father was a farmer, later a cowman. Her mother seems to have died before Frances reached her teens, and she became a help to her father at home before her marriage. Presumably she then looked after Arthur's sons from his first marriage, before her own daughters were born. She died in 1969. Frances Mary is commemorated on the same stone as her parents. She was born on 22 January 1931 and baptised at Stoneleigh on 8 March. She married Aubrey Frederick Gordon Hutton in late 1951; she died on 14 May 2014 and her remains were interred on 17 June. Arthur and Frances' elder daughter Ruby Roberts nee Dolby is also commemorated in Stoneleigh churchyard (see F4.33); she had married Alfred Roberts in 1944 and had five children - a daughter and four sons. She died on 20 March 2012 and her funeral was held at Stoneleigh on 2 April before cremation at Canley. Arthur and Ruth's son Percy William Dolby, born in 1909, apparently emigrated to New Zealand. His cremated remains were interred at Stoneleigh in 1986 with the inscription "Of New Zealand. Brought home to rest" (F2.16).
