Grave drawing
Grave photoThomas and Mary Davis nee Dry and Elizabeth Davis The fine Davis tomb commemorates several members of the family. Thomas was born in Priors Marston and baptised there on 13 April 1711, the son of Thomas and Anne. He married Mary Dry, who was born in 1714, on 10 November 1749 at Holy Trinity, Coventry, and they then lived in Stareton. They had four children, two of whom died in infancy, as is stated on the tomb. Thomas appears in silkweavers' apprentice records in the 1740s and 1750s as churchwarden and overseer of the poor, (though the name could be referring to his father). Perhaps this explains the family's acquaintance with this local trade (see daughter Mary Davis). Thomas died on 6 September 1782 aged 71, and Mary four years later, on 18 March 1786, aged 67. Their daughter Elizabeth, born in 1752, died at the young age of 28 on 28 May 1778. Thomas and Mary's other daughter, Mary, married twice and she, with each of her husbands, is also buried alongside them at Stoneleigh (D 1.16).
