Grave photoFrederick Arthur James Oatley Frederick Arthur James Oatley was born on the Isle of Wight on 6 December 1932. His mother's maiden name was Abbott. He married Ann Lockley in the third quarter of 1960 on the Isle of Wight and they had a son and daughter; both the children's births were registered in Marlborough, Wiltshire. Fred would often be seen taking in the sunshine outside his home or tending to the allotment he had. In March 2012 Fred was recruited by the organisers of the Stoneleigh Orchard to scuff the meadow, in the vicinity of the orchard, which was to be turned into a haven for wild flowers. Fred's talent as a skilled operator of a tractor and other agricultural machinery was very apparent and onlookers were impressed by his expertise. Fred showed an interest in the orchard and could be frequently observed wandering alone or with his wife Ann inspecting the trees and offering advice. Fred was keenly anticipating the resultant cider. He died on 22 March 2017 at the age of 84 and was buried on 3 April.
