Grave photo Horace Cyril Oughton and Beryl Irene Oughton nee Bannister Horace Cyril Oughton was born on 2 January 1909 in Stoneleigh, to Charles Oughton and Maud Ann nee England. When the 1911 census was taken, however, the family which included an older brother, Leslie, was in Bideford, Devon where Charles was a conductor of the town band. On 18 October 1912, Horace was baptised, in Bideford, and his father was described in the register as a musician. Both Horace's father and grandfather were in fact musical men, associated with the military, and had travelled with the army: Leslie, Horace's older brother, had been born in Kalabagh, India in 1906, and on his baptism record his father Charles' profession was noted as band sergeant in the 1st Seaforth Highlanders. Charles also served in the Sudan campaign between 1896-8. Charles' father Robert had been born in Gibraltar and was a drummer in the Warwickshire Militia in the 1881 census and an army drummer in the 1901 census. Horace's mother Maud Ann England had been born in Stoneleigh and the family were back in the area in 1913 when Irene Gwendoline, a sister for Horace and Leslie, was born on 24 April. Horace married Beryl Irene Bannister in the first quarter of 1936 in Coventry, Warwickshire. In 1939 the couple were living in Coventry and Horace was an aircraft fitter. Sometime after the war Horace went into the motor trade, as noted in the probate of his father-in-law on 17 April 1964. When Horace died on 6 March 1993 at the age of 84, he and his wife were living in Finham. He was buried on 12 March 1993. Beryl Irene Bannister was the only child to be born to John Bannister and Rose Ellen nee Stead in Coventry on 4 April 1912. When she was baptised at St Peter's Coventry on 25 July 1912, her father's occupation is given as machinist and the family were living at 361 Swan Lane. Beryl outlived her husband by exactly 10 years, dying on 6 March 2003, aged 90 in Solihull. She was buried at Stoneleigh on 14 March.
