Grave drawing
Grave photoMary Anderton nee Hiatt Mary Anderton's origins are unclear, but as Mary Hiatt (or Hyate) she married John Anderton on 19 May 1791. Her parish was Kenilworth and the marriage took place there, though banns were also called at Stoneleigh, where John lived. The couple had five children, all of whom were baptised together at Stoneleigh on 22 September 1811. At the time the eldest, Elizabeth, was stated to be 12 years old; presumably the youngest, Hannah, was still a baby. Mary died in July 1839 and was buried at Stoneleigh on 12 July, when her address was given as the Hollies, which today is in Burton Green. Mary and John's sons, James and Richard Anderton became, respectively, a publican at Barston and a schoolmaster in Nottinghamshire.
