Grave drawing
Grave photoStephen Rawlins Stephen Rawlins was baptised at Stoneleigh on 5 October 1755, the fourth son of six of William Rawlins and his wife Elizabeth nee Priest. Their address is given as Weston Heath, which was in the Tile Hill area of the parish, close to present-day Westwood Heath; at Stephen's death, however, the address is Stareton. Stephen's father William married twice, and Stephen and his brothers were the product of the first marriage. Elizabeth died in 1761 and William married again and produced a daughter. The family's occupation is unknown but in a survey of Stoneleigh in 1769 a farm which had been let to a Jenkins is now let to Lant, Rawlins and Gumley, so they may have been farmers. William Rawlins is one of the signatories, as a "principal inhabitant" of the petition to erect a workhouse in Stoneleigh in 1783. Stephen married Rachel Cherry by licence at Charlecote on 18 May 1802. He died on 16 June 1815 and was buried at Stoneleigh on 19 June.
