Jesse Paul Wilkes (known as Paul) was born on 8 September 1920, the son of William Henry and Mary Ann Wilkes. He was standard bearer for the Stoneleigh Branch of the Royal British Legion, and sadly, died suddenly on Remembrance Sunday, 10 November 1974. Poignantly, his tombstone reads "His friends were legion in number."
Joyce Cecily Sibley (known as Joy) was born in Fillongley on 3 March 1925, the third of eight children of Richard and Evelyn Lucy Sibley nee Timms. In 1943 she joined the WRAF as a wireless operator and was posted to Egypt. She and Jesse Paul (known as Paul) Wilkes were married on 5 July 1949 at Stoneleigh. In later years she worked in accounts at the British Showjumping Association. In October 1975, after 24 years of service in the office of Treasurer for the Stoneleigh Branch of the Royal British Legion, Joy retired, but still remained an active member. She died on 22 September 2016 and the funeral was held at Holy Trinity Church in Leamington, as Stoneleigh Church was closed for building restoration at the time. She was buried with her husband in Stoneleigh churchyard on 26 October.
