Richard Pierce Butler and Alice Dudley Butler nee Leigh
Richard Pierce Butler, 11th Baronet Ballin Temple of County Carlow, Ireland, was born on 28 September 1872, the eldest son and the third of seven children of Sir Thomas Pierce Butler, 10th Baronet, and his wife Hester Elizabeth nee Bellingham. He married Alice Dudley Leigh on 2 June 1906
He died on 25 March 1955, at his house in Kensington, aged 83.
Alice Dudley Leigh was the daughter of
James Wentworth Leigh and his wife
Frances nee Butler (
D 22.18). She was born at York Farm, Butlers Place, Philadelphia, on 2 July 1874. She married Sir Richard Pierce Butler, a distant relation, and they had a son and two daughters. After her marriage she lived at her husband's ancestral home at Ballin Temple, County Carlow, Ireland, but died at one of their two Kensington homes on 13 July 1965, aged 91. Her son Thomas, who had succeeded his father to the title, was now master and resident governor of the Tower of London.
