Grave drawing
Grave photoEmily Frances Thorn nee Baxter The wife of much-loved vicar of Stoneleigh Canon John Thomas Thorn (E. 1.5 ), Emily Frances Baxter was the daughter of an equally well-loved vicar, the Reverend John Alexander Baxter of Christ Church, Coseley in Staffordshire, and his wife Frances Anne Firmstone. Emily was born circa 1835 in Churchill, Worcestershire; she had five younger siblings. Sadly her father died when she was just 14, in 1849, apparently from overwork and stress, and by the 1851 census Emily was living with her widowed mother in Stourbridge, her mother living independently on railway funds. She was married in Stourbridge in April 1858 to John Thomas Thorn, who had been ordained in 1855; they were in Inverkip, Renfrewshire, at the time of the 1861 census, where he was the local clergyman. He had become Rector of Ashow by the time of the 1871 census and they moved to live in the Stoneleigh vicarage when he became vicar of Stoneleigh in the autumn of 1873. Emily was just 44 when she died on 29 May 1879. She and her husband had not had any children. She was buried at Stoneleigh on 3 June.
