George Garlick and Mary Garlick nee Grimes . Also Mary and Martha Garlick
George Garlick was the oldest of the four children of Richard and Elizabeth Garlick of New House Farm, Stareton. He was born in Stoneleigh in 1719 and baptised there on 26 July. Although he was the oldest son he farmed not at New House but at Hunningham. He married Mary Grimes there on 28 April 1750. Mary had also been born in 1719 and was baptised in Long Itchington on 27 August, the daughter of George and Anne Grimes.
Unfortunately George died when just 42 years old on 27 May 1762. He was buried two days later at Stoneleigh, confirming the family's strong connection with the parish. Mary survived him by 32 years, dying on 11 May 1794. She was buried along with her husband on 15 May and the burial register recorded her as "widow Garlick from Hunningham".
Also buried in this grave are their grandchildren, Mary and Martha Garlick. Mary had been baptised at Stoneleigh on 20 January 1783, but buried a few weeks later on 18 February. Martha had been baptised at Stoneleigh on 20 January 1792, but buried on 8 August the same year. They were two of the daughters of Richard and Mary Garlick (
D 1.12) who were cousins, Mary being the daughter of the above-mentioned George and Mary.
