William and Sarah Lee, Thomas and Elizabeth Lee nee Satchwell, and Frances Lee
William Lee, son of
Thomas and Frances Lee nee Hunt (
D 9.4) is commemorated along with eight of his children who died in infancy. William was born in 1763 and married
Sarah Tomson on 8 January 1787 at Stoneleigh. Like his father, William appears in parish records as a Stareton farmer. He died on 27 February 1808 and was buried on 2 March;
Sarah died the following year and was buried on 18 January.
One of William and Sarah's sons,
Thomas Lee, born in 1792, is commemorated on the same tomb along with his wife
Elizabeth and their daughter
Frances. Thomas was baptised at Stoneleigh on 23 January, the eldest of nine children. On 12 January 1813 he married
Elizabeth Satchwell in Bubbenhall, and they went on to have six children. Elizabeth had been born in Bubbenhall in 1784 and baptised there on 21 November, one of the seven children of Moses and Elizabeth Satchwell, nee Shaw.
Elizabeth died at the age of 62 in July 1847 and was buried at Stoneleigh on 8 July; Thomas died two years later on 11 January 1849, and was buried on 15 January. They had appeared in the 1841 census, farming in Stareton, with all their daughters living at home at the time. This included their third daughter
Frances, who had been baptised on 15 June 1820 but who died in July 1841 and was buried on 10 July. Their sons Thomas and William were elsewhere.
The inscriptions on this box tomb are now very weathered.
