Thomas and Frances Lee nee Hunt
Thomas and Frances' names appear on a large box tomb. Theirs was a farming family in Stareton over many years. Thomas' father was
William Lee and his mother
Priscilla (
D 9.5); he was born around 1737 if the age on his tombstone is correct.
He married Frances Hunt on 15 February 1763 at Sherbourne; Frances' parish was Fulbrook "the next adjoining parish" as the register states. She was ten years younger than him, having been baptised on 5 April 1747 at Sherbourne. Her age on marrying was therefore extremely young, and she was declared a minor marrying with consent of her parents Simon and Frances. They produced a large family of three sons and six daughters, their eldest being born at the end of 1763.
Thomas died on 22 October 1783, aged only 46, and was buried on 26 October. In his will he left lands in Barston and Balsall as well as in Coventry, left sums of money to all his children, making particular provision for the education of his youngest, Thomas - who was less than a year old - as well as directing his eldest son to assist his mother in the management of the farm.
Frances, ten years his junior, died in Coventry on 16 January 1809 and was buried at Stoneleigh on 19 January, the burial register noting that she was "late of Stareton." By the time of her death the lands in Barston and Balsall were still in the family's possession as well as in Rugby and central Coventry. She makes complex arrangements in her will to dispose of this land and property and carefully provides for each of her children and where appropriate their spouses and children.
