Hannah Satchwell nee Harris and David Satchwell
Hannah Harris was one of the four daughters of Robert and Susanna Harris. Her sister
Mary was the first wife of Job Lee (
A2) and her sister
Ann, who did not marry, is buried next to her at
E 9.3.
Hannah was born in 1818 and baptised at Ryton on Dunsmore on Christmas Day. In 1851 she was working as a housemaid at Whitley Abbey, for the Hood family. She may have remained in service there, but on the night of the 1861 census she was in Stoneleigh at the residence of her sister Mary and her husband Job Lee. Mary died shortly afterwards and so perhaps Hannah was there during her illness.
Hannah stayed in Stoneleigh as in 1871 she was working as a housemaid at the vicarage. She then married widower David Satchwell, who was a carpenter. The marriage was witnessed by, among several others, her brother-in-law Job Lee.
Later Hannah and David lived at The Hill, which had been David's home during his first marriage. Hannah died on 18 May 1895; she was buried on 21 May.
David Satchwell came from a much bigger family: he had nine siblings, one of whom,
George, is also buried at Stoneleigh with his second wife
Elizabeth nee Turner at
E 3. 13. Their father was Job Satchwell, a Kenilworth carpenter; his mother Elizabeth nee Lee. David and his brothers Job and George all followed in their father's trade.
David was born in late 1818 or early 1819 as his baptism was on 10 January 1819, in Kenilworth. He was married when he was 25, in 1844, to Letitia Mullis, but she died in 1871, apparently without issue. They lived at The Hill, and when David married Hannah Harris they continued to live there, David still working as a carpenter.
It appears that David took responsibility for Hannah's relatives after she died: her unmarried sister Ann had been staying with them in 1891 and when David died on 4 November 1899, probate was granted to Hannah's unmarried niece Mary Ann Harris Summerton (daughter of Hannah and Ann's sister Lydia). In 1901 Ann and Mary Ann were living at the Hill after David's death, presumably taking on his property - by this time Ann was 91 and her niece must have been caring for her.
David was buried on 9 November.
