Grave photoJohn Reginald Walton and Daisy Walton nee Greenfield John Reginald Walton was born on 2 December 1893 in Stoneleigh and baptised on 4 February 1894. His father was Thomas Edward Walton and his mother Elizabeth Jane nee Goodwin. He was the eldest child of five. His father was a carpenter and joiner and the family lived at 1 Hudson's Bridge - ie Motslow Hill (for Thomas' and Elizabeth's burial see B2.3) John, too, took up carpentry and during the Great War joined the Royal Engineers as a sapper before the summer of 1915. In April 1918 he was reported missing, and it was discovered that he had been taken prisoner in Germany on 21 March. Thankfully he returned home on 6 December 1918. John married Daisy Greenfield in the summer of 1923 and by 1939 they were living in Paradise Street, Coventry, where John was working as a coach builder at a motor works. By 1951 they had moved back to Stoneleigh and were living in the family home on Motslow Hill; John was by now a garage vehicle builder. He died on 29 November 1976, still residing at Motslow Hill cottage, and was buried on 2 December, his birthday. Daisy Walton nee Greenfield was born on 9 April 1901 to Robert Greenfield, a florist, and his wife Clarissa Emily nee Alcock; she was baptised on 19 May at All Saints Church, Leamington, the family living at Bath Street. By 1911 the family were living in Forfield Place Leamington with Clarissa's parents, Robert being an unemployed, or "disengaged" gardener, as it was stated. Clarissa and Robert had had five children, though one had died, and the remaining children were all girls, Daisy being the eldest. Sadly Daisy died at the comparatively young age of 50 on 4 July 1951, and was buried on 9 July.
