Thomas Rotherham
Thomas Rotherham's gravestone proclaims his death on 2 May 1800 but it is difficult to read his age. His parentage has not been discovered, but he was evidently a comfortably-off farmer, as his name appears in many of the jurors' lists and land tax assessments of the 1780s and 1790s. In the death duty register he is described as "Gentleman" and the burial register says he is from Westwood Heath.
His will reveals much about his family relationships and his connections with the
Sammons and
Phillips families, many of whom are buried nearby: Thomas left land to be shared among the children of his nephew John Rotherham and his two nieces Mary and Catherine Rotherham.
