Francis Dennis Taylor was born in King's Norton, Worcestershire, on 19 September 1908, the son of Charles Frederick Taylor and Sarah Ann (née Dennis). Before entering naval service, he worked locally as a milk rounds boy.
At the age of 15, on 30 August 1924, Francis enlisted in the Royal Navy, beginning what would become a long and steady career. His service record places him aboard H.M.S. Caldwell during the Second World War, by which time he had risen to the rank of Petty Office. The last entry on his service record is on 24 February 1949.
Francis married Louisa on 15 December 1941 in Worcester. Settling in Stoneleigh after his long career with the Royal Navy he died suddenly at his home on 13 February 1966, his funeral being held at Stoneleigh on 16 February.
Louisa Taylor (née Ward), the wife of Francis was born on 26 August 1906, the daughter of John Ernest Ward and Louisa (née Tamlyn) and died in 1998.
