Grave drawing
Grave photoWilliam King William King was born in 1826 in Allesley, the son of Joseph and Ann King. He was baptised there on 9 April. His father was a labourer and William began his working life as a male servant for a woman farmer in Allesley. At the age of 22 he married Elizabeth Boneham. She was originally from Hunningham but the pair were married on 10 January 1848 in Cubbington. William and Elizabeth then lived in Stivichall where he was a farmer's labourer. They do not appear to have had any children, and Elizabeth died in September 1873 and is buried at Hunningham. By the time of the 1881 census William was farming in a small way in Corley, where he held just 31 acres. He was looked after by a housekeeper until his second marriage later that year. His new wife was Jane Taylor nee Jeacock. (She is buried with four other members of the Jeacock family at B 12.6). Jane was the second daughter of Job and Sarah Jeacock nee Garlick, who were butchers and farmers. Jane's first husband Matthew Taylor, an innkeeper, died in 1863 and Jane then kept the Clarendon Arms in Kenilworth during the 1870s. William and Jane were married on 26 April 1881 in Leamington. They made their home in familiar territory for Jane: Stoneleigh. They lived at the Old Vicarage in Church Place (now Church Lane). William died on 28 November 1895 at the age of 69 and was buried on 3 December. Probate was granted to his wife and one of her sons, William Jeacock Taylor. His tombstone reads:
And now Lord, what is my hope Truly my hope is in Thee
