B1.17

Grave photoAlso Sidney Cooper This headstone commemorates three family members. John Sidney Frederick Cooper was born on 7 June 1883. He married in the summer of 1915 and he and his wife had a son, Sidney, and a daughter Betty (see B19.3). At the time of the 1939 register he was the chairman and director of a dairy company, living at Hill Farm, Stoneleigh, with his wife and children. He died on 7 October 1957 aged 74. Sarah Brown, usually known as Sally, was born on 18 September 1883 and baptised in Coventry on 17 October. Her parents were Charles William Brown and Emily Alice. Few further details are currently known about her. She died on 3 August 1971 and was buried at Stoneleigh on 6 August. Their son Sidney Cooper was born on 15 April 1918 and baptised at Stoneleigh on 12 May. In 1939 he was living at Hill Farm with his parents, sister and grandfather, and was working with his father in the dairy farm business. He died on 6 May 1992. As the headstone refers to "my brother" it must have been commissioned by his older sister Betty. In 1974 a beautiful silver box for holding the wafers at the Holy Eucharist was given in memory of their mother by Sally's son and daughter. She had always regarded Stoneleigh as her parish church and showed a lively and generous interest in it all her life. The box was designed and executed by the vicar's brother R.S. Parks who was an accomplished designer and silversmith.
