Alfred Robert Lane and Betty Lane nee Cooper
Alfred Robert Lane was born on 3 June 1915, the son of William Robert Lane and his wife Alice nee Cummings. He had one sister, Brenda, born in 1923. Their father was a building contractor, and Alfred was to follow his father in the trade: by the 1939 register they are both described as such, living at The Cedars, Tamworth Road. In 1940 he married Betty Cooper, a shorthand typist.
Betty Cooper was born on 3 January 1917, the daughter of John Sidney Frederick Cooper and his wife Sarah nee Brown. (see
B1.17) She was baptised in Stoneleigh on 1 February 1917. She had one brother, Sidney, born in 1918. Her father was a dairy farmer at Hill Farm.
Alfred died on 16 December 1978 and was buried five days later on 21 December. Betty survived him by many years, dying at the age of 92 on 4 May 2009.
