Grave photoEmma Meacham nee Brown and Robert Craig Edwards Commemorated together here are a grandmother and grandson. Emma Meacham was born Emma Brown on 3 April 1877 in Bradwell, Buckinghamshire, one of the eight children of Robert and Jane Brown. She lived with her parents until after the 1891 census where she is described as a dressmaker. By 1901, however, she was living in Coventry with her husband Walter Meacham who was a coach painter, also from Buckinghamshire. They had married in Coventry on 5 August 1899, his address being Catherine Street and hers Far Gosford Street. Her father is described as a wheel turner. By 1911 the couple had two sons Walter and Leslie aged 9 and 6. Walter senior was now working as a foreman in the cycle trade as an enameller and they lived at St George's Road. Their daughter Gwendoline was born on 15 November 1913, and in the 1939 register Emma and her husband were still living at 50, St George's Road, where he was an inspector of motor cars. Sadly Walter died in 1948, leaving Emma a widow for another 24 years before her death at the age of 94 on 13 March 1972. Emma's grandson Robert Craig Edwards is buried with her. He was born on 19 August 1943, the son of Gwendoline Mary (nee Meacham) and Leonard Edward Edwards (see B11.11). The headstone records his death on 7 April 2008 and that he is a father and grandfather. He had married Sandra Whatley in 1965 and had a son and a daughter.
