Grave photoThomas James Craddock and Mary Ann nee Wardell Thomas James (Jim) Craddock was born on 25 September 1894 in Bromyard, Herefordshire, one of seven children of James and Eliza Jane Craddock (nee Mantle). In 1911 he was a waggoner's boy at the farm of John Porter in Stanford Bishop, Herefordshire, but had moved to Stoneleigh before 1914 as he joined up shortly after the outbreak of the Great War, in September 1914. He married Mary Ann Wardell on 30 July 1921 and they went on to have a daughter and three sons. Sadly their daughter died in infancy. In 1939 they were living at 10, the Bank in Stoneleigh, and Jim was a county council foreman. He played a large part in the life of the village, serving on many committees and being a stalwart of the church. He died on 4 April 1960. Mary Ann Wardell was the daughter of Alfred Abel Wardell and his wife Frances Rebekah Hortin (see B1.14 and B1.10). She was born on 4 January 1892, the third child of four in the family. She was baptised at Stoneleigh on 28 February. She survived her husband by fourteen years, dying on 25 March 1974.
