John Upton and Louisa Upton nee Goode
Louisa Goode was born in January 1851, the fourth child of John Goode and his wife Caroline nee Powell. She would ultimately have eleven siblings. Louisa was baptised at Stoneleigh on 2 February, and lived in the village until her marriage to John Upton in 1875.
John Upton was the second child of Richard Upton and his wife Temperance nee Bourton. He was born in Little Bourton, Oxfordshire, on 3 April 1849. His whereabouts are unknown in the early 1870s but he married Louisa Goode on 13 October 1875 in Stoneleigh. The family were living at the Old Mill in Stivichall when their first son was born, the following year, but they moved back to Oxfordshire where three more children were born. In 1888, however, when their last child was born, they were living at Pipes Mill in Stoneleigh, and they continued to live in the village thereafter.
On the occasion of their Diamond Wedding in October 1935 it was reported in the news that they had had five children, and now had 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Louisa died on 2 February 1936, aged 85. John died on 10 August 1941 at the age of 92.
