Grave photoRichard Upton and Barbara Emma Upton nee Morby Richard Upton was the son of John Upton and Louisa nee Goode (who are buried in B6.5). His father was an Oxfordshire man but his mother was from Stoneleigh; Richard's birthplace was Stivichall, where the family lived at the Old Mill. Several of his siblings were born in Oxfordshire but by the late 1880s the family had moved to Pipes Mill on Coventry Road Stoneleigh. Richard married Barbara Emma Morby on 9 August 1898, in Stoneleigh; they went on to have three children. He was employed as a waggoner and at first they lived on Tile Hill Lane, and then in Offchurch, and during the Great War Richard worked for farmer Mr Swinnerton. For over 30 years he was employed as a farm stockman by the Adcock family at Leasowes Farm; in fact he had met his wife-to-be there when she was a maidservant. They celebrated their Golden Wedding on 9 August 1948, when Lord Leigh presented Richard with a gold watch chain and Emma with a gold brooch; afterwards a tea was held at the Victory Hall. By this time they were living on Birmingham Road. Barbara worked for many years at the Vicarage, for the Reverend and Mrs Cooke. He died on 25 March 1955 aged 79. Barbara Emma Upton (usually known as Emma) was the daughter of William Morby and his wife Sarah nee Wyatt. She was born on 5 August 1875 at Charlton, Oxfordshire, and baptised on 28 September at Newbottle in Northamptonshire. These two villages, just west of Brackley, straddle the county boundary and are only half a mile apart. Charlton is sometimes classified as being in Northamptonshire, in fact. In 1965 a 90th birthday party was held in Stoneleigh for her, given by the "Darby and Joan Club". She died at the great age of 96 on 26 April 1972 and was buried on 2 May.
