Grave photoHarry George Mills and Gladys Dorothy nee Adams Harry George Mills was born in Stoneleigh on 23 November 1899, the second son of George and Louisa nee Prentice. He was baptised in Stoneleigh on 14 January 1900. Sadly his mother died on 20 June 1906 when Harry was just six years old, and by 1911 he was living with his uncle Henry, a woodman on the Leigh estate, and his aunt Hannah, at Thickthorn Lodge. Harry had a varied and unusual service during the Great War, corresponding frequently with Cordelia Leigh about his activities, particularly in Dublin in the latter part of the war. His older brother Thomas Bant Mills also served, but was, tragically, killed in a motorbike accident at Ashow in 1933. In 1921 Harry married Gladys Dorothy Adams, the youngest child of Raynor Adams and his wife Ann (Ann is buried at B5.11). Their daughter Joyce Barbara was born on 21 October 1924, in Stoneleigh. The family lived in Birmingham Road, where Harry was a house decorator. They first lived at number 6 and later at number 16. Harry later worked for Coventry City Council until his retirement in 1964. Gladys had been born in Aston, Birmingham, on 27 July 1902. Her eldest brother Raynor died in the Great War in 1915 and her father died in 1919. Harry died on 21 July 1971, aged 71, six years after the death of his wife Gladys, who had died on 14 August 1965 at Warwick Hospital. Their daughter Joyce, who became Joyce Birditt, is also buried at Stoneleigh at D 26.12.
