Grave photoWilliam Adcock, Edith Adcock nee Wright, William Henry Adcock and Clarice Irene Adcock nee Poulter This splendid stone proclaims "This family have been tenant farmers on Stoneleigh Estate for more than 300 years" and indeed there are many of the Adcock family buried at Stoneleigh. William Adcock was born in April 1859 to parents William Adcock and his wife Elizabeth nee Hicks. He was baptised in Stoneleigh on 3 May in the same year. By 1871 he and his brother Henry were living with their parents at The Hill and his father was farming 156 acres and employing 3 men and 2 boys. By 1881 the farm had grown to 180 acres in size, and his brother had left home. In April 1891 the census shows him still working and living with his parents but on 30 September he married Edith Wright at Ashow. By 1901 William and Edith had moved to the Leasowes running the farm and living with two sons and a daughter. They were all still there 10 years later as shown in the 1911 census. Edith Wright was born in 1864 in Astley, being baptised there on 13 February that year. Her parents were John and Emma Wright and Edith was one of the eleven children born to the marriage, though three had died by the 1911 census. By the time she was seven her family were at Fen End, Balsall Common, where her father was a farmer and landowner. By 1891 the family farmed at Ashow, which was why Edith's marriage to William Adcock took place there. The family continued to live and farm at The Leasowes and by 1939 William and Edith were retired, their son Edmund Henry running the farm with his wife Eleanor and their son (William and Edith's grandson) William Henry who was working as a milkman and tractor driver. William and Edith's two other children remained in farming also, their elder son William farming at Wainbody Wood and their daughter Ethel marrying Walter Archer, a Wolston farmer. Edith died on Christmas Eve 1941 aged 77 and William died on 24 September 1945 aged 86 years. Their son Edmund Henry Adcock and his wife Eleanor nee Collins are buried at B12.15 William Henry Adcock was born on 15 January 1923 to Edmund Henry Adcock and his wife Eleanor nee Collins (usually known as Nellie). He married Clarice Irene Poulter on 30 April 1946 at Stoneleigh and continued to farm at The Leasowes. The couple had three daughters, Margaret, Kathleen and Valerie. William died on 17 April 2001 and is buried alongside his grandparents William and Edith. Part of the inscription on his gravestone reads "Remembered with a smile". Clarice Irene Poulter was born on 29 January 1920 to parents Albert Edward Poulter and his wife Frances Emily nee Warner. Her birth was registered in the district of Rugby but the family farmed, variously, in Ryton-on-Dunsmore and Baginton. In 1939 she was living at home with her parents at The Row, Baginton, where her father was a dairy farmer. Clarice died on 13 August 2009 and was buried in the Adcock family plot on 25 August.
