Welcome!
Thank you for visiting the website of Stoneleigh History Society! We hope you will enjoy looking through it. Perhaps you might like to become a member, or come along to our meetings. You will always be made very welcome.
Our first 2026 meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 27th, featuring a double presentation from two of our members.
1. "Who gave 'Lanch' to Lanchester Polytechnic?"-A short overview of Dr Fred Lanchester's life and accomplishments from 1868 to 1946, covering automobiles, aircraft, Maharajas, and peaky blinders.
2. A DVD documenting the local "Campaign to Stop Expansion of the Airport" from the early 2000s, accompanied by a brief commentary.
The meeting begins at 7:30pm in Stoneleigh Village Hall. New members are welcome. Non-members pay £3, which includes refreshments.
Annual membership fees of £20 are now due. For additional information, please refer to the membership page.
Happy New Year!
DID YOU MISS?
Two booklets written by Sheila Woolf • Travels with the Leighs • Queen Victoria's Visit to Stoneleigh in 1858 If you did not get an opportunity to see the 2025 exhibition A Moment of Celebration in the Leigh Chapel or wish to have another look the display is now available in booklet form. • Stoneleigh and Ashow News - our village magazine - from 2010 onwards There are also other research materials and previous displays in folders to look at. The 1939 register has also been updated to include some names which were originally redacted. A paper copy of this can also be found in the Leigh Chapel, alongside the display. Were any of your relatives A.R.P wardens, land girls or "doing their bit" for Stoneleigh? The 1939 register may show if they were.
